Position Announcement


Principal Conductor

Terre Haute Community Band, Inc.


The Terre Haute Community Band, Inc., a 501c.3. non-profit corporation is seeking to fill the position of Principal Music Conductor. 


The Conductor receives a small stipend for the summer rehearsal/ performance season which normally runs from May through August. 


Qualifications:  The applicant should have significant background in music performance or education and experience in rehearsing and conducting a large ensemble.  Strong ties to the Wabash Valley are desirable but not required. The applicant should be aware of and committed to the objectives of the Terre Haute Community Band, (Separate Document - Objectives of the Terre Haute Community Band, Inc.) 


Terms of Employment: Two years, subject to renewal following annual review by the Board of Directors. Upon hiring, the Conductor will be asked to sign a “Memorandum of Agreement”. 


Duties & Responsibilities: The Conductor is responsible for Monday night two-hour rehearsals leading to a one-hour performance as scheduled with the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department. Generally, there are between six and eight concerts scheduled with two rehearsals prior to each performance. 


The Conductor is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and committees as assigned by the President.


The Community Band occasionally has other opportunities to perform throughout the year. The Conductor has the option to prepare and conduct additional concerts for pay. 


How to Apply: Candidates should submit a brief resume with a cover letter indicating their interest and qualifications specifically geared toward conducting a large community/amateur ensemble. 

 

Optional: Include video or equivalent evidence of conducting ability.
